Electric Lineman
Under the supervision of the Electric Distribution Superintendent, the Journeyman Lineman is a non-exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). They are responsible for ensuring the provision of quality and reliable electricity to the citizens of Sterling. They possess a strong mechanical and technical aptitude, and excellent and communications skills.
Duties
- Constructs and repairs as well as strings lines underground and overhead distribution systems in the city as well as repair electrical equipment on other city properties;
- Sets primary and secondary poles and frames hardware;
- Installs and troubleshoots single phase and three phase transformer stations; capacitor stations, cutouts, insulators, cross arms, and lightening arrestors;
- Constructs and maintains various types of electrical metering;
- Enforces departmental and city policies and procedures;
- Builds and hangs new primary and secondary lines;
- Provides hook-ups for primary and secondary meters;
- Operates all departments equipment as needed;
- Installs and maintains street lighting and tornado sirens;
- Trims trees in energized lines for clearance;
- Performs routine maintenance on all electric distribution vehicles;
- Performs sub-station maintenance;
- Performs line locates for any construction or digging operations;
- Performs daily water and electric readouts, and disconnects;
- Hangs city Christmas lighting
