FAIR HOUSING NOTICE:

AS PART OF THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT THAT STERLING HAS RECEIVED FOR STREET IMPROVEMENTS, THE CITY MUST CONDUCT A FAIR HOUSING ACTIVITY.  THE CITY IS MAKING THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION AVAILABLE TO CITIZENS SO THEY CAN RECOGNIZE HOUSING DISCRIMINATION.

Under the federal Fair Housing Act, it is Against the law to do any of the following based on the factors of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familiar status, or or handicap:

  • Refuse to rent to you or to sell you housing
  • Tell you housing is unavailable when in fact it is available
  • Show you apartments or homes only in certain neighborhoods
  • Set different terms, conditions, or privileges for sale or rental of a dwelling
  • Provide different housing services or facilities for reasons other than cost
  • Advertise housing to preferred groups of people only
  • Refuse to provide you information regarding mortgage loans, deny you a mortgage loan for reasons other than credit, or impose different terms or conditions
  • Deny you property insurance

If you feel you have been discriminated against, you can call the Department of Housing and Urban Development toll-free at 1-800-669-9777.
